When growing microgreens in soil you want about 3cm-4cm of soil in your tray that's flat and firm. Spread your seeds evenly across the tray, and water in thoroughly using a spray bottle to lightly mist them.
Check daily and re-mist once a day or so as required to keep the soil lightly moist. When ready to harvest trim your microgreens just above the soil line with scissors just like giving them a short haircut.
Sowing the right amount for your needs will become natural with experience so don't be afraid to sow too little or too much.
If your microgreen seeds are sown too thinly this will make for a small, scraggly crop but won’t cause any trouble. If your microgreen seeds are sown too thickly the microgreens will come up very dense, but you may waste some seeds.
There's no problem in sowing multiple microgreen crops in the same tray - even if they have varying harvest times you can sow your seeds into different sections of the same tray and enjoy as they're ready.
Microgreens will thrive if their roots get a good mix of water and oxygen. Over-watering causes the roots to not get enough oxygen and makes the crop susceptible to root diseases, so avoid watering excessively. Keep your microgreens growing medium lightly moist throughout their whole growth cycle and enjoy when fresh.
Once harvested your micro greens will not regrow, and you should prepare for your next batch of micro greens.
