Botanical Name: Cucumis sativus
Heritage: pre 1900’s
'Crystal Apple' is a popular home garden variety producing delicious Cucumbers.
It has a sweet and tender flavour, crisp juicy flesh, and thin edible skin.
While they can grow to about the size of a small apple, they have the best flavour while still young and under approx. 5cm in size. It is easy to grow and a vigorous producer that crops heavily, doing best in a sunny spot with fertile and well-drained soil.
Regularly harvesting the fruits will produce a heavier crop over a longer season.
Spring - Early Summer
Cucumbers are best sown spring through early summer. Sow seeds in trays of seed raising mix and germinate at temperatures of approx. 18°c – 30°c.

Transplant with care once seedlings are at 2 - 3 true leaf stage to a sunny and well-drained position approx. 40cm - 60cm apart.

65 - 100 days
Plants will produce best results with regular watering. Try to avoid splashing water on the leaves to prevent garden fungal diseases, especially in warm weather. It is most productive in warm and dry conditions, but can tolerate most frost-free climates. Please note that it is tender to frosts.
Cucumbers are fun to grow. Being trailing plants they can be grown as a sprawling vine along the ground, or trained up a trellis or framework where space is limited. The skin of this variety is white with a slight green to yellow hue, staying crisp white on their undersides where they've been laying on the ground.
Best picked when young and fresh, as when left on the vine too long they can develop some bitterness in flavour. Cucumbers generally don't keep for too long unless pickled, so cut and enjoy in salads or sandwiches while crisp and tasty.
